welcome to Fishtown

Several months ago, we gave you the heads up about a subdivided commercial building available for sale or rent at 1306-12 Frankford Ave., in Fishtown. The current owners, who purchased the building in 2005, renovated the building a few years ago, and were listing four 2,000 sqft commercial spaces for sale or rent. Now, it seems that the spaces have actually been subdivided and that a tenant or two are on the way.

The building

Liquor license app number one

Liquor license app number two

The liquor licenses are being transferred from two addresses in the Northeast. Any ideas about who could be coming into these spaces? Any thoughts on what type of establishment people might be into in the neighborhood?

One thing that we know for sure, it’s great news to see that this commercial space has a future to speak of- it’s been vacant for quite some time.

I heard that the property further North was just the owner of the building trying to get approval for a restaurant, etc in order to make it more appealing for a perspective tenant. Not sure about the other property.

I’d also heard that the current owners went ahead and secured a liquor license in order to make the space more enticing to would-be tenants. That said, it was only last weekend that I noticed two licenses instead of one. One includes an amusement permit as well as patio seating in the back, whereas the other does not say anything about additional permits or exterior seating. This could still be the owners trying to give future tenants options (just because the licenses are from bars in the NE doesn’t mean those operators are moving…it may just mean that those businesses went under and the licenses became available for purchase).

RE: “Has anybody in the neighborhood heard any buzz about a couple of northeast-based bars coming soon to Fishtown?”

The original locations on the NE have nothing to do with anything. That’s just where the license is being transferred from. It does not imply, and in this case is definitely not, the same operators.
