welcome to Graduate Hospital

As you can imagine, we find ourselves at 21st & South on a fairly regular basis. And while we certainly espouse the car-free lifestyle, we confess that we sometimes find ourselves behind the wheel of a small automobile, looking for a place to park. One result of the water main break at 21st & Bainbridge back in July has been the closure of 21st St., between South and Kater, unless you are inclined to move the extremely movable barriers to either drive to your block or park your car. As you can see, the parking spots are very much in use on this block.

Barriers plus cars

Unfortunately, some neighbors have taken it upon themselves to aggressively defend this half-block, believing that the street should be closed except for near residential neighbors. Just the other day, one of these individuals hilariously confronted us after we pulled out of a parking spot and attempted to drive to 20th Street via Kater.

Yelling

Blocking the road

Noticed we were taking pictures

Ineffectively hiding

Same guy protects South Street, too!

Nearly got into a fistfight with this couple

So what do people think? Should the ten or so spots on 21st Street, between South and Kater be preserved for people who live nearby while the water main pit persists? Or are street parking spaces there for anybody who wants ‘em?

Either way, we’re looking forward to the day in the (hopefully) near future when the pit is filled and 21st Street reopened. Though considering the moat on Bainbridge Street and the still-jacked up sidewalk just north of the intersection, we’re guessing it’s still gonna be a month at least.

Wow, screw this guy. I would have the police on the line the second he touched me or my property.

  • phlstudent

Either everybody gets to park or no one gets to park there, the breaking of a water main does not equal jackpot parking for residents. What a jerk! I hope someone calls the cops on him.

That lunatic threw dog crap on my girlfriend’s house when she lived on that block of Kater. Since she was one of the few people with a dog on the block, he assumed the unpicked up turd came from her dog. Pretty sure this jackass single handedly blocked Tria coming to your spot, so OCF Realty you are welcome…..I guess

Hahaha. What? This is ridiculous. First come, first served, is my thought on parking in this city. It’s dog-eat-dog in that respect.

As long as he has a spot, why does he care?

  • hahahaha

This might be my favorite nakedphilly article ever. Ironically, I believe he may be part of the reason that OCF occupies their current location, as I believe he was one of the main protestors of Tria coming to that corner…

He has the typical Philadelphia entitlement mentality

  • Frank Rizzo

Is that the guy who blocks the 2100 block of Kater St each day?

  • yourmom

Park where you want. If and when he touches you, a quick baseball bat to the jaw will realign his thinking quite quickly.

  • http://www.facebook.com/ed.ruane.jr Ed Ruane

If they want to reserve spots, they should just take the officially recognized Philadelphia approach and put a folding chair or a garbage can there.

I think NakedPhilly just got itself a new meme! Let the photoshopping begin!!

WOW! At first, I was like eeh, I think they should be entitled to first dibs. You know its like in a snow storm – you shovel it, you keep it. But wow! This guy takes it to a whole other level that makes me want to park a bull dozer in front of his house just to piss him off. And then to take it up with a couple on South Street? That guys needs some bad karma, STAT! Now all of the Philadelphia Interwebs get to see what an ass this guy is. HOWDY NEIGHBOR!

The PWD can take as long as they want. Until then, I can open my windows on Bainbridge without the nonstop barrage of vehicle noise.

  • Anonymous

True, but the attempted Scaloning of an on-street parking space does take things to a new level.

  • 3rd&Brown

He really needs to get laid, among other things.

  • Anonymous

lol. G-Ho kinda did this to themselves with their (unfortunate) planning.

  • lava monger

I live in this closed section and this guy moves the cone every single day to block off the street.

Before the break, I parked my car with flashers on at the end of Kater to move a Craigslist purchase upstairs. I came down to find him taking down my license plate number.
I actually like the closure because it has increased the chances of finding parking on my street, but it’s sort of like leaving a cone to save a spot. You can’t get bent out of shape when someone calls you on it.

  • Brannon

I live there and he yells at me too. That guy has asperger’s or just an idiot

  • Jackie

Kudos to him! When you come home from a long day at work, you want to be able to park near your house..
