Four Houses on the Way at the Corner of Lawrence and Poplar

Developer PH Properties is building four houses at 424-28 Poplar St. in Northern Liberties. They broke ground in the past week or so, and we spotted the formwork for the foundations today.

Once built, the homes will be of the single-family variety and will have rear access garages. There will be one curb cut that provides access to all four garages.

Considering all the development that’s taken place in Northern Liberties in the past decade, you would think that there wouldn’t be vacant lots available to accommodate four new construction homes, let alone the twenty being built on Hope St. that we mentioned earlier this week. Yet somehow, these parcels have remained vacant, presenting developers with yet more opportunities to build in the neighborhood.

As for the development on Poplar and Lawrence, we’re just hoping that the architects don’t make too much of an effort to match the surrounding architecture. Let’s just say it wouldn’t be in anyone’s best interest.

    Word around the hood is that PH Properties sold the land, the city’s records just haven’t recorded the sale and change of owners.  Unless we’ve been misinformed.

    I believe that house belongs to an urban pioneer who moved in in the 70′s during the back to the land movement, or some such thing. I always considered it part of the interesting side of nl rather than a bad thing. to be honest, some of the modern log cabins are downright beautiful. this one looks self built
