welcome to Old City

Old City Frozen Yogurt joined the plethora of frozen yogurt shops late last week, just in time for the heat wave and holiday weekend. Located at 229 Market Street (former home of Bon Bon Gelato), OCFY is decked out in hot pink and lime green tones with modern décor and outdoor seating, perfect for drunk people watching. They offer 10 self-serve probiotic-filled flavors and a buffet of toppings that will run you just 49 cents per ounce (cash only).

OCFY is the first of its kind in this side of town, and we have to say that we love having a “healthy” alternative to Franklin Fountain. Philly already has plenty of these trendy frozen yogurt shops: two Sweet Endings, Tutti Frutti, Yogorino, Yogurt City, Phileo Yogurt, Berry Sweet, and Kiwi, with rumors of Pinkberry and Red Mango on the way. Is the market too saturated, or can Philadelphians eat enough froyo to keep everyone in business?

The froyo market is out of control. Plus, Yogorino is the only one worth eating at (nom nom nom).

This place is really good tho, I was sitting outside in Old City last week and a girl walks by with some samples, it tasted just like vanilla ice cream to me. Of course if your goal isn’t to have a froyo that tastes like ice cream you may not care but that would make me buy it.
The girl blamed it on the new machines……not that it’s that good LOL so figured I’d get it early and leave it be if the taste changes on me.

So many frozen yogurts, so little time.  We wonder what the next big dessert trend will be – I say donuts, or possibly pie!

This place has good yogurt-it’s yocream and I think they are an Oregon company who takes their production pretty seriously. Also it makes no sense that new machines make yogurt that tastes like ice cream. that makes no scientific sense. it’s just creamy and good flavored and therefore is like icecream, except for no fat and about 1/3 the calories.  good customer service too, and they aren’t a franchise like yogorino.

This place is great! The peanut butter yogurt especially.

I was happy to see some fro yo come to Old City. I’ve been here a few times. Each time, its ultra-clean, the staff is friendly and the yogurt and toppings are super-yummy. I love the fact that we have some fro yo in the hood. Yay!
