welcome to Old City

Residents were dismayed when the Snow White Diner at 200 Market Street closed down on Easter Sunday of 2010. The diner’s long history (originally opened in the 1950s) had residents anxious for a happening change. Now, after almost a year of construction, the city landmark has finally been refreshed.

The long-awaited renovation is almost complete. Revolution House will open its doors on June 1. Inspired by Old City’s rich history, owners John Poulos and restaurateur Luca Sena of Ristorante Panorama have completely revamped the one-story diner into a colonial, industrially designed bi-level. In an effort to keep the space green, the owners have employed recycled wood on its two bars, adorned walls with vintage furniture and resurrected two old church doors as part of the décor. Colonial-inspired period lighting, including an enormous chandelier above the staircase, illuminates the 140-seat restaurant. Exposed brick cozies up the atmosphere and a metal staircase gives an industrial feel. The upstairs bar is decorated by dozens of hanging glass bottles. Best of all, upstairs boasts a beautiful skydeck with a view of Penn’s Landing and Market Street, full of blooming plants and bordering flower boxes.

Luca Sena Jr., the owner’s son, will be taking over as head chef, serving a “twist on an Italian diner,” according to general manager Megin Mowery. Revolution House also features a brick oven pizza made with materials from Naples, Sena’s hometown. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served 7 days a week, in the manner of an “upscale diner during the day, with fancier dinners.” And now serving alcohol, of course. The restaurant plans to serve craft beer, featuring 16 taps and cocktails. —-Suzy Grimberg

We’ve been in twice and have enjoyed the service and the food. Missing Snow White for it’s historic neighborhood status, but now we have a lovely new 3 meals a day place! The interior looks and feels much better than these photos convey. Can’t wait to sit out on the roof deck.
