welcome to Pennsport

In January, we updated you on a story we initially broke last June, about a new Vietnamese restaurant coming to Front & Titan Sts. in Pennsport. At the time, we pointed out some demolition activity ongoing next door at 1114 S Front St., the former home of Sculli Bros. Inc.

In January

Over the past six weeks or so, the building has been thoroughly gutted.

We weren't kidding

A few commenters in January gave us the heads up that this now-gutted building will, by the end of the year, be a new satellite location for Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center (VSEC), located in Levittown. According to Marketing Manager Rebecca Orsher, this 24-hour emergency hospital will house a veterinary critical care center, and will also house various specialists in the fields of surgery, internal medicine, oncology and diagnostic imaging, and possibly dermatology, who will all be available by appointment.

This facility will not contain a general veterinary practice, but will instead provide supplemental medical care for your pets during the hours that the vet’s office isn’t open, and specialty care for more complicated cases. And for the most complex situations, additional resources are available at VSEC’s larger facility in Levittown, which is only about half an hour away. The design for the new hospital, by PZS Architects, looks sleek and handsome.

Wouldn't you agree?

As for the future restaurant next door, things appear to be moving rather slowly. We saw a couple of guys working inside, but you could tell they have a long way to go until they’re finished. Lots of framing is done, but no drywall was up as of last week.

Looking north

In spite of the slow pace, we’re confident that by the time the year is out, this corner will be totally transformed by two new buildings containing two new businesses. Good news for Pennsport, indeed.

That building looks sort of like a suburban post office or something but either way I think it’s great that a vet specifically for hours when normal vets aren’t open is going there.  Everybody has pets, no matter where you fall on the socioeconomic scale and everybody wants the best for them.
