welcome to Point Breeze

We got a tip from a reader about a newly poured foundation on the 2000 block of Ellsworth, and we discovered said foundation at 2040 Ellsworth St.

Gonna be tall

The builder, Quaker City Properties LLC, is out of New Jersey and also has a couple of other properties in Pennsport. They purchased the lot about a year ago for a reasonable $47K. We’re expecting a three story single family home on the site.

Meanwhile, down the street, progress is readily apparent at 2016 Ellsworth St., a property we reported on a couple of weeks ago. The inside has been fully demoed, the roof has been taken off, and the entire front has been reframed. Mr. Smith has no interest in taking his time here, it seems.

Movin' along

And from what we hear from neighbors, the church on the northeast corner of 21st and Ellsworth has been doing some renovation work, with a ton of help from members, both during the week and on weekends.

Yellow tape and hard hats

And finally, let’s not forget the properties on the 2000 block of Annin St. that we mentioned a month ago. They’ve transformed from foundations to fully framed homes, and you can see them from Ellsworth St.!

Annin St. houses on the left, and the new Ellsworth St. foundation is on the right

Plenty of development going on right now in the northern part of Point Breeze. And there’s plenty more to come.

This is awesome. It seems like this section of Point Breeze is growing overnight. So there are 10 homes around there that are under construction? The 2 on Federal, the 6 on Annin and these 2 on Ellsworth. I think this will bring in more customers to the OCF cafe in the future.

Not just here, but nearby to the east, since I can vouch for about 5-6 new houses on the 1700 block of Annin, a reno and a demo on the 1600 block of Annin, and a reno on the 1500 block of Ellsworth, in addition to all the construction mentioned here on NakedPhilly.  All that’s missing are some local businesses (*cough* OCF, ASB, *cough*)…

    Please cough louder.

I wonder what will end up going in the old Munson Manor space.

That whole area would be much calmer if Hoagie Town didn’t sell the brewskies…but I like Sue (Hoagie Town owner) and understand she’s just trying to make a living like the rest of us.

It would also be much calmer if the 17th District didn’t all walk/drive around with blindfolds on.  Only time they take their blindfolds off is when they need to park their personal vehicles 100% on the sidewalk of Point Breeze Ave. in between Manton and Oakford.

I remember calling 911 to report something on my street.  I won’t get in to details.  Was sitting in my bedroom when the cops finally decided to drive by.  They stopped, told the person what they were doing was totally illegal, and then said “If you find out who the person is that called us you’ll find out where the problem is”. Swear to god.  I don’t even bother calling the cops about anything anymore.  Makes me wonder how many other new and old residents just stopped calling 911 because they gave up on the 17th District doing anything about anything.
