welcome to Point Breeze

Last summer, we told you about six homes going up on the western end of the 2000 block of Annin Street, one of the bleakest blocks in the neighborhood. While those homes were progressing, another developer decided to build a house next door at 2044 Annin St., and the sale of that home is currently under contract. While these seven new homes obviously represent a tremendous improvement for the block, it still has a ways to go.

The new homes

East of the new homes

Last month, a representative of CBF Projects Inc came before South Philadelphia Homes, Inc to present (for a second time) plans for three more homes on this block. The project would involve three single family homes at 2016-2020 Annin St., each three stories high with bay windows and roof decks. At the meeting, the community generally seemed to be in support of the project, aside from a couple of extremely loud dissenters who didn’t appreciate the roof decks in the plans.

The lots

It’s great to see this block, which was truly a disaster less than a year ago, moving in the right direction. And with a new coffee shop just a couple of weeks away from opening around the corner, we imagine that the block will continue to improve moving forward, roof decks and all.

I wish I lived in a classy neighborhood like that where the new construction didn’t all have ridiculous bump-outs/bay windows.

One thing about this area that irks me is the absence of apartment buildings. I think thats because most development is infill. But this block looks like it could be a prime location for an apartment building.

Cinquecento, Point Breeze has plenty of rental properties and cheap homes to buy.  The only way to fix Point Breeze is to build more expensive homes to bring in money to the neighborhoods.
