Numerous readers have asked us about 1600-02 South St., oddly vacant lots on South Street West. Sure, there are a handful of vacant lots on this stretch, but with the rapid redevelopment that’s happened here in recent years, most are on their way to development in the near future. These lots, which measure 34′x53′, have been used as a surface parking lot for as long as we can remember.
Our ears perked up a couple of months ago when a reader who had been parking there for quite awhile reached out and gave us the heads up that the lots were no longer going to be used for parking. We figured that something was on the horizon for these lots, and wouldn’t ya know it, there is. Yesterday, these went up…
As we were walking over to Quick Fixx the other night for some quick but delicious dinner, we noticed some new signage at 1609 South St., most recently home of Pumpkin Market. Over the past year, we’ve explored the changing landscape on South Street West on a micro level, bringing almost every new building and business to your attention individually. Ms. Vider does a nice job bringing it all together.
Back in October, we gave you the heads up about some new businesses on the way on the 1500 block of South St. (the same block as the Royal Theater). We gave you the scoop on the planned conversion of the Tritone to a new concept from the Hawthorne’s folks, we told you about Rex 1516, the planned restobar from the folks at Jet Wine Bar, and we mentioned the planned lunch/dinner spot, Quick Fixx.
Well, last night was the big finale for the Tritone. According to Foobooz, work will soon get underway on what will eventually become known as The Cambridge. The concept will be a neighborhood bar with food similar to Hawthorne’s, a fine beer selection, and a focus on smaller wineries. Expect a…
