Over the past two years, the little block of Front Street between Titan and Manton has experienced a complete transformation. Back in 2011, two old warehouses stood here:

Now, with the opening of Mekong River and the Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center, both in newly built structures, this stretch has a very different look.

Even though these buildings are across the street from I-95, their owners felt that the investment at this location would pay off. This speaks to the tremendous growth we’ve seen lately in Pennsport, along with the stability that the neighborhood has experienced for so many years.
Kind of makes us wonder what’s next…
It’s been an entire year since we first told you about 1120 S. Front St., which was, at that time, a stalled construction site where a warehouse had been demolished. At the time, we promised an eventual Vietnamese restaurant from Liem Ma, owner of Cafe Viet Huong at 11th & Washington.

Then in January, we checked back in on this location, noting that construction had resumed. We figured that the Pho would be flowing by the springtime.

Turns out, it took just a little longer to get the restaurant open. But a couple of weeks ago, Mekong River threw its doors open and Pennsport hasn’t been the same since. They will be serving alcohol in the near future, but are byob…
