We’ve heard buzz about this place for months, and starting tomorrow we’ll be able to check out Morgan’s Pier in person. Located at in the shadow of the Ben Franklin Bridge at 221 N Columbus Blvd., in a space that was formerly Octo and before that Rock Lobster (and before that, Hooters?), Morgan’s Pier will try to turn the “tide” that’s resulted in so much turnover here over the years.

It was supposed to relocate to its new home this fall, then maybe by the New Year. An email was sent to members and news posted online that it would happen on February 1st.

Now, the opening date for the new Mariposa Co-op site, at 4824 Baltimore Ave. in West Philly, has been moved back to mid-February due to a delay in the delivery of a piece of refrigeration equipment.

Rendering looks pretty much the same. Different sign, of course. And creepy rendering people.

But alas, the expansion project is coming to a close. Products have been ordered and soon, out west, there will be an expanded organic and local produce, dairy and meat (and tofu!) section for the farm-to-kitchen set.

Before, only members could shop at the co-op, getting a 5% discount, and working…

As you may have heard, the Spaghetti Warehouse, formerly located at 1026 Spring Garden Street, closed this past December. While there will be no more serving of mediocre-yet-reasonably priced Italian food, there are new plans for this larger-than-average warehouse space. The North Philly Landmark building will be turned into a live music venue and is said to be opening its doors in September of this year.

While the plans for the venue have not been formally announced, Union Transfer LLC has filed an application for the liquor license. Some feel the news is only a rumor, however, “Foobooz reached out to the parties involved and did an online search of the PLCB licensees’ database to find Hornik and Agnew listed as officers.” Who are Hornik and Agnew you ask?
