Toynbee Tiles

Not really an old ruin, but slowly disappearing just the same. These mysterious pieces of public art started being noticed around Philadelphia after 1983. They later started appearing all over the world- there was even one in Santiago, Chile that had a specific Philadelphia address written on it. No one knows for sure who really placed these tiles or how they were done, though there is plenty of speculation. They are currently credited to a carpenter named James Marasco who died in 2003, but witnesses claim to have seen new linoleum toynbee tiles since then.
