Since 1989, Scoop DeVille has made its home at 1734 Chestnut St., watching dozens of businesses come and go on the block. But come tomorrow, Scoop DeVille will fade away into ephemera like so many other businesses before it, according to Michael Klein.

Klein writes that the owners of the business are being squeezed out of this space by rising rents, and will be opening a combo breakfast-lunch-ice cream shop called Sophie’s Place in Wayne. As for Center City fans of the establishment, a new Scoop DeVille, under different ownership, is apparently coming to 1315 Walnut St., most recently home to Tutti Frutti and a space that we’ve written about in the past. We were in the area the other day and noticed that Tutti Frutti, located at 1315 Walnut St., was no more. The space, which was previously a Bonte outpost, is currently available for rent by Goldman Properties, according to the sign in the door.

Closed forever

While some may be a little frustrated that they now have to walk another block and a half to indulge in tasty frozen yogurt, we wonder whether the struggles that two businesses have had at this location are a function of concept or location. A number of other successful businesses are located in the immediate area, among them Naked Philly favorite Citi Marketplace, as well as Philly Chocolate, which replaced the extremely popular Naked Chocolate in the space next door. Located at 229 Market Street (former home of Bon Bon Gelato), OCFY is decked out in hot pink and lime green tones with modern décor and outdoor seating, perfect for drunk people watching. They offer 10 self-serve probiotic-filled flavors and a buffet of toppings that will run you just 49 cents per ounce (cash only).
